My Views:
The book begins with the scene of accident, the starting point of the book is the ending of Ananya's relationship with her husband who dies in an accident. The end of the book is the starting of the her new and successful life. The in-between pages is the struggle and the hard work put in by Ananya to reach where she does; without affecting her love and affection for her child.
From an unsure person to a confident woman - Ananya can be considered as an inspiration for women who are too afraid to take the first step.
I liked the writing style of the author. Language is the strong point of the book. Though, the author has used a few Hindi words she has made sure to mention the meaning in English. I also like the idea of "Glossary" towards the end of the book. There are few lines scattered throughout the book that leave a lasting impression on you.
One needed time to process and heal from one relation to be truly available for another; otherwise, one uses other people as emotional punchbags. (Page 96)
This one is my favorite.
To quote a few more:
You can lose something that you have; you cannot lose something that you already are. (Page 46)
A Valuable lesson she had learnt in the short span of her career was to stay clam to take right decision. (Page 176)
The story is slow paced. Author has introduced characters in the book, some of which play an important role in Ananya's life, a few do not appear anywhere again in the book. The bond between Ananya and her daughter is beautifully written. Details about the "After Tea" functioning can perhaps be explained by author's experience in journalism and feature writing. On one hand the author has given attention to the minute details and on the other hand has not been able to do much justice to the romance between Ananya and Vicky; maybe because not much time has gone-by since the death of Rahul (Ananya's husband) but personally I would have preferred writing about the emotional turmoil of Ananya and Vicky's head-over-heels love for the Editor of his magazine. The "Sparks" are missing.
Overall, it is a good book to read (start reading) on a relaxing evening. It is fine to keep the book down for a while, the story stays with you. It is not too difficult to remember what was the last thing you read. Even I could not read in one sitting.
